- I was diagnosed with having polycystic ovaries and Stein Leventhal's Syndrome, by a Gynecologist in 1981. In 1982 I heard an hour's length talk about acupuncture. Later that same year, Jane started treating me. While I went to her initially, to see if she could cure me of these two conditions, I realized, in her hour long series of questions, that I had a feeling of emptiness inside of me as well. A number of months after being treated weekly by Jane, my menstrual cycle returned, the emptiness disappeared, I developed a voracious appetite for reading books and my sexual drive was established. A few years later my ovaries were checked by a doctor and I was told that they were their normal size. So Jane's acupuncture treatments reduced them, from what the Gynecologist discovered as being three times their normal size, to their normal size in less than 7 months. For twelve years after my 7 months of weekly acupuncture treatments, I continued to feel myself becoming more and more feminine. Before and after, I was diagnosed with Stein Leventhal's Syndrome, I was beginning to feel more and more like a boy and was confused about my sexual identity. My confusion worked itself out after the first five of the following twelve years. I was told by the Gynecologist that if I ever wanted to have children, that because of my polycystic ovaries, I would need to have surgery first, to have a wedge cut out of one of my ovaries, in order for an egg to be released as the tissue surrounding my ovaries was too thick for an egg to be released on it's own.
